Senator sees no serious grounds to block YouTube in Russia

MOSCOW, Jul 20 (PRIME) -- There are no serious grounds to block YouTube in Russia, which welcomes competition, senator Alexander Bashkin told PRIME late on Tuesday.

“Russia is an open state, it welcomes competition. So, let YouTube work,” Bashkin said, adding that he posted a video himself on the platform earlier on Tuesday.

“But YouTube must, as well as other platforms, respect the requirements of the Russian law. If it does not misbehave, we will not have to block it,” the senator said.

Igor Ashmanov, a member of the president’s council on the development of civil society, said earlier that YouTube may be muted in the country by September.
